West Deptford – The West Deptford Police Department have arrested a Millville man for allegedly burglarizing a local home.
On June 15, 2020 at approximately 4 a.m., police say a man burglarized an occupied residence in the 300 block of Curtis Avenue in West Deptford Township.
Police said the homeowner woke up and saw him, which prompted the suspect to flee on foot after stealing an undisclosed amount of currency.
Authorities identified Eric A. Hunter, 38, of Millville, as the alleged culprit in a media release.
Police said on June 16, 2020, at 12:30 a.m. Ptlm. William Reichert was patrolling the area where the burglary occurred and observed a subject walking in a yard that matched the description of the suspect from the prior morning.
During Ptlm. Reichert’s field interview with Hunter provided false information regarding his identity, police said. Eventually Hunter was able to be positively identified and it was learned that he had active warrants out for his arrest, according to police.
West Deptford Detectives were notified of the arrest and Detective Matt Carroll conducted a recorded interview with Hunter, where he confessed to burglarizing the residence on Curtis Avenue along with committing numerous motor vehicle burglaries in the adjacent area, police said.
West Deptford Police conducted a search of his room at the Red Bank Inn Motel, where they discovered additional evidence linking him to the burglaries, police said.
Hunter was remanded to the Salem County Correctional Facility, pending a detention hearing.
